Black popular culture is multifaceted, full of excellence, and continuously innovative. It’s taught America, and most of the world, to move with a little more swag, confidence, and style. But who knows more about the culture that constantly defines what’s cool?
In ESSENCE’s new video series, the B-Side, Grown-ish stars Chloe x Halle face off against rap duo Rae Sremmurd to figure out who knows the most about Black pop culture.
Before the battle began, the sibling duos, made the case for which pair’s hometown was the Blackest. Of course, Chloe x Halle, who also grace the cover of ESSENCE’s first-ever digital cover, put on for the city of Atlanta, while Tupelo, Mississippi natives Rae Sremmurd argued the Magnolia state was decidedly more Black than the ATL.
After they repped for their hometowns, the duos then began trading answers on everything from naming the Black National Anthem to what time Usher was in his “drop top cruising the streets.”
In the end, it was very close…but there’s only one B-Side champion.
