When Sean “Diddy” Combs marched onto the Miami set of his ESSENCE cover shoot with his entire family, including his mother, Janice Combs, he knew the day would be special. It’s because he dedicated the day to his late soul mate Kim Porter.
Porter, who was also the mother to three of his children, died last November.
“We wanted to do this in honor of Kim and all mothers out there and what better place to celebrate especially Black mothers than ESSENCE,” he tells us in his ESSENCE UnCovered video.
“The moment is special for me and my family because it’s the first time since we’ve really spoken about losing a mother,” Diddy adds.
In this special behind-the-scenes video, which goes behind the covers and onto the set where a Black female photographer, Dana Scruggs, shepherded the family in front of the lens, Diddy also shares how his daughters have changed his life.
“My daughters have taught me patience. They’ve opened up my feminine side,” he explains. “They really taught me how to treat other women. It took me to have daughters to really know hw to treat a woman and I’m still learning.”
