ESSENCE News was able to catch up with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams in Georgia this past week as she heads towards the finish line of an intense campaign season.
And despite the close battle for the Georgia governorship against her Republican opponent, Brian Kemp, Abrams appeared to be energized as ever.
“If we win this election…when we win this election…what we are going to demonstrate is that we can change the face of leadership,” Abrams says told ESSENCE News on the campaign trail.
“But it’s not just about taking something away, it’s about expanding what we expect of our leaders, what we expect of our people, what we expect of our communities,” she added. “And I believe that with the right people leading, with good people leading, with different backgrounds and of different that we can lead the country forward starting here in Georgia.”
Abrams enjoyed a big campaign week with the likes of
Oprah Winfrey knocking doors on her behalf.
