Like so many actresses in Hollywood and the world beyond, Halle Berry is reflecting on the life and legacy of director John Singleton.
The famed director of Boyz n the Hood, Poetic Justice and Baby Boy suffered a major stroke last week, which has left him hospitalized. Despite reports that he passed away on Monday, Singleton “is still on life support,” his publicist told the Los Angeles Times.
Although she was suffering from a cold, Berry spoke about Singleton last week while promoting her latest film, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, out May 17.
“When I think of him, I think of him sort of being an innovator,” she told ESSENCE. “He came along at a time when people of color didn’t have the opportunities that we have now in cinema. He was a real pioneer and a trailblazer.”
“To hear that he’s suffering like this I think just makes everybody feel sad. He’s one of the good guys,” Berry added.
