Zendaya is truly one of the busiest women on the planet. The actress stays booked and is currently appearing in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and HBO’s wild and controversial Euphoria.
Last week the starlet stopped by ESSENCE, where she opened up about her roles in both projects.
In the HBO series, Zendaya plays Rue Bennett, a 17-year-old recovering drug addict whose world is spinning out of control.
The role is an opportunity for Zendaya to stretch her wings and show a new side of herself. The former Disney star is now starring in a series that has sparked tons of conversation for its shocking scenes, including one that included 30 penises.
Some stars might squirm at the thought of their parents seeing them in such a shocking series, but Zendaya said her parents are “proud” of the work she’s doing.
“I showed them the pilot as soon as I got it,” she said. “I’ve tried to show them other episodes, but they want to watch it live.”
Her character in the Marvel Universe is miles apart from the role she plays on Euphoria. In Spider-Man, the actress reprises her role as MJ and this time fans get to see more her character’s budding romance with Peter Parker (Tom Holland).
“We get to kind of see different sides of MJ and [see] her break her wall down a little bit and find out, maybe, why she was watching Peter. Maybe it wasn’t just for one reason,” Zendaya explained.
Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters Tuesday.
